Five Movies that Destroyed Tons of Cars
#1: Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
Cars Destroyed: 93
Director, producer, writer, and lead-actor H.B Halicki’s 1974 crime film is famous for multiple reasons. To begin with, he performed all of his own stunts, both driving and otherwise. He was even involved in a nearly fatal accident during filming, which saw his vehicle spin into a light pole at 100 mph. Following the crash, he continued to direct and drive while wearing a full leg cast and dealing with multiple broken ribs.
The film featured 11 Cadillac vehicles and three Chevrolet models, including a Chevy Vega (which seems like a good fit for John Travolta’s character from Pulp Fiction).

The much-maligned 2000 remake starring Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie toned down the destruction a bit. Even so, it showed off four Cadillac vehicles and three Chevys.
#2 & #3: The Blues Brothers/Blues Brothers 2000
Cars Destroyed: 103 & 104, respectively
Perhaps the most unlikely member(s) of this list, the Blues Brothers films both set records for the most cars destroyed on screen. The original film reportedly wrecked 103 vehicles, 60 of which were decommissioned police vehicles purchased by director John Landis for $400 apiece for a total of $24,000. Accounting for inflation, those same 60 police cars would cost just shy of 75,000 today.
The Blues Brothers (1980) held the wrecked vehicle record until its far less appreciated 1998 sequel Blues Brothers 2000 trashed 104 cars.

#4: The Matrix Reloaded
Cars Destroyed: 300
Even if the Matrix sequels were disappointing to general audiences, they certainly didn’t skimp on automotive destruction. Apparently, General Motors donated 300 vehicles to the Wachowski Sisters for the production, which they proceeded to demolish in spectacular fashion.
#5: Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Cars Destroyed: 532
While virtually nobody considers Michael Bay’s Transformers movies to be cinematic masterpieces, it’s difficult to deny that they deliver on spectacle. For the third film in the series, Dark of the Moon, Bay is said to have purchased over 500 irreparably flood-damaged vehicles to be destroyed by quasi-organic space robots with unclear motives.
