Forester, WRX Lead Subaru to Best Sales Month Ever…Again

Last month, a pretty similar headline told of Subaru’s incredible sales success in July. In fact, with 50,517 units sold in July 2015, Subaru celebrated its best sales month ever. But what a short-lived record that was, as August 2015 stole the title just 31 days later. In total, Subaru managed to move a record 52,679 vehicles off dealer lots last month, for its best-ever August and best-ever month on the books.

This marks a 4.9% increase over August of 2014, when Subaru sold 50,246 units. So far in 2015, Subaru has sold 375,632 vehicles, a 12.5% gain over the first eight months of 2014. This also marks the 18th consecutive month that Subaru has managed to hit sales over 50,000.

As in July, the 2016 Subaru Forester led the charge in terms of the most units sold last month. Subaru moved 17,565 Forester models in August, up 6.9% over August 2014. Also successful was the Subaru WRX/STI, which saw a whopping 128.4% increase, from 1,474 in August 2014 to 3,367 in August 2015. In addition to the Forester and the WRX, the Impreza and XV Crosstrek also experienced their best Augusts ever, at 19.1% and 6.7% increases over August of last year, respectively.

On the flip side, the Legacy, BRZ, and Outback were down for the month, but not significantly. In fact, the Outback was still the second most popular model in August with 11,113 units sold, compared to the 11,428 sold in August of last year.

“Our milestone August sales results are a testament to the dedicated efforts of our retail partners to provide our customers with the best purchase and ownership experience possible,” commented Thomas J. Doll, President and COO of Subaru of America. “It is through our retailer’s efforts in satisfying our customers that we continue to see growing demand for our products here in the U.S., which should result in another record year for our franchise.”
