GM Appoints Markus Leithe Managing Director Middle East Commercial Operations
General Motors announced today that it is appointing Markus Leithe to the position of Managing Director Middle East Commercial Operations. Leithe has been with the company for nearly two decades in a number of executive leadership roles.
Leithe’s role will put him squarely in charge of sales and marketing operations for Chevrolet and GMC in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Yemen. GM is looking to continue growing in these markets, and it has pegged Leithe as the man to facilitate that growth.
“We’ve seen 13% growth in the markets which Markus is now responsible for in the first half of the year. As we plan to build on this growth, it is essential that we have a proven leader such as Markus to drive this strategy forward,” said Mario Spangenberg, President and Managing Director for GM Africa and Middle East Operations.
“With Markus at the helm, he will bring renewed focus to our brands and operations. As interest in our products continues to expand, he will be at the forefront of our approach to ensure we are well equipped to accommodate and serve a growing number of Chevrolet and GMC owners,” Spangenberg added.
In 17 years with GM, Leithe has worked in various roles with GM Middle East and GM Europe. Prior to this appointment, Leithe served as the Director of Vehicle Sales and Service Management with GM Middle East.
