GM May Produce a Diesel-Powered Buick Encore
Don’t look now, but the Buick brand is experiencing a serious resurgence. In fact, the GM luxury brand has experience 17 consecutive months of sales growth, and its most recent success can be attributed to the success of the all-new 2013 Buick Encore.
The Encore was the best-selling CUV in its class through the month of September and has done a long way to attracting the younger buyers Buick so desperately needs. Now, GM is looking for a way to address the one major complaint about the Encore (lack of power) and separate itself further from the rest of an emerging segment. One way to do that is to offer a diesel-powered Buick Encore.

The 2013 Encore is powered by a turbo 1.4-liter engine that only pumps out 138 horsepower, but adding a diesel variant would be an easy way to boost those numbers. The Encore’s European cousin, the Opel Mokka, already offers a 1.6-liter diesel engine that would bolster performance figures significantly when placed under the hood of the Encore.
The Encore is not the only vehicle in Buick’s lineup that GM is thinking about adding a diesel engine to. The Buick Verano could also have a diesel-powered model soon, which would be based off the Chevy Cruze Diesel already in production.
