Honda was named the top mainstream car brand for residual value according to ALG, a subsidiary of TrueCar that specializes in market analyses and depreciation forecasts.

ALG says that after three years of ownership, you can expect your Honda to have retained the most value compared to any other non-premium brand, and ranked five Honda models at the top of their respective segments: the Accord, Fit, Odyssey, Passport, and Pilot.

All of these models have been featured at the top of ALG’s rankings in previous forecasts with the exception of the Passport, which is all-new for the 2020 model year. Combining off-road ruggedness and on-road refinement, Honda’s new SUV took the win in ALG’s category for midsize utility vehicles with two rows of seating (for those interested in midsize utility vehicles with three rows of seating, look to the Honda Pilot).

Residual value is an important factor to take into account when leasing a car, as it represents your car’s estimated worth when the lease term ends. This has an influence on two things: your monthly payments during the term, and the cost of the car if you choose to purchase it when the lease is up. “As with most things involving value, it’s usually ideal to lease a vehicle with a high residual value,” ALG says.

With five models featured at the top of their respective categories, Honda was named the best overall mainstream brand for residual value, ahead of second-place Subaru, which had earned the honor last year.
