How to Help Your Baby Stop Crying in the Car
Sometimes a car ride is the solution to a cranky baby who can’t fall asleep. The hum of the engine, the coziness of a properly-installed car seat, and the constant movement work miraculously together to soothe a fussy baby into slumber. Other times, a car ride is akin to a living nightmare for parents whose baby finds car rides a cry-inducing experience.

If your baby has a hard time enjoying the ride, the following tips might help dry her tears and soothe your nerves.
A comfy baby can’t sleep, and since car seats don’t leave a lot (any) room for your baby to get comfortable, make sure the straps aren’t too tight, yet still safely secured, or that your baby’s clothes haven’t bunched up causing her distress. Too loose or too tight clothes can cause crankiness, too. Perhaps the cushion of the car seat isn’t providing enough support or is too thin to counteract the hard shell of the car seat.
You can easily adjust the temperature around you, but your baby has to deal with the cabin temperature as is. Make sure the interior’s temperature is just right for your baby so she has an easier time drifting off to sleep.
Sometimes your baby’s level of comfort in the car needs to be tended to way before you put her in her car seat. Is her belly full? Has her diaper been changed? Timing is everything in life, especially when traveling with babies and children.

Create a relaxing or familiar environment. If music or white noise helps your baby drift off to sleep in her bed, play those tunes in the car. And calmly reassure your baby — sometimes just the sound of your voice can help soothe your baby.
