The Chevy Volt may be gone from the automaker’s lineup, but it’s far from forgotten. According to the experts at Kelley Blue Book, the Volt is among the best plug-in hybrids on the used-car market. Here’s what puts it above the competition.

Remarkable value

The 2016 Volt earned a spot on KBB’s “10 Best Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles Under $20,000,” for more than just its price tag. The panel appreciated the Volt for its family-friendly hatchback body style, spirited driving dynamics, and intuitive infotainment technology. Reviewer particularly praised its 53-mile range, which far outclassed competitors like the 2018 Hynudai Ioniq, which only offers 29 miles of range.

And speaking of competition, the Chevy Volt beat a number of popular and premium rivals, by KBB’s standards. It ranked above the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid, and the BMW i3.

Get to know the Chevy Volt

The featured model of the Chevy Volt came from the second generation. It’s powered by a 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which works in tandem with a front-mounted motor to deliver 149 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. The 2016 Volt also comes with a four-cylinder engine that functions as a range extender. In total, the Volt offers 42 mpg and a total range of approximately 420 miles.

Electrification efforts

While Chevrolet doesn’t have any plans to produce other plug-in hybrid EVs, the brand is expanding its offerings for customers looking to go electric. GM, overall, is in the midst of a major push to make EVs accessible to the public. GMC is gearing up for the release of the Hummer EV and Hummer EV Truck, while Cadillac has been hyping up the Lyriq. And Chevy recently released the two versions of it popular Bolt, in both a compact hatchback and small SUV body style.
