Top Dawg Entertainment rapper Jay Rock suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized following a motorcycle crash

Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar have collaborated on a number of songs

The night of February 15, 2016, was bittersweet for hip-hop recording artist Kendrick Lamar. On one hand, Lamar won five Grammy awards, but on the other hand, his Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) label mate and frequent collaborator, Jay Rock, was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash.

The CEO of TDE, Anthony Tiffith, was the first to break the news via Twitter about the motorcycle accident.

Jay Rock, whose real name is Johnny McKinzie Jr., may be best known for collaborations with other rap artists Schoolboy Q, Lil Wayne, and the aforementioned Lamar. McKinzie released his second album 90059 in 2015.

McKinzie’s boss at TDE released another Twitter message–about an hour after the first one—to clarify the extent of the situation and to let fans know McKinzie’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Jay Rock is not the only rapper to recently be involved in a motorcycle accident. In 2015, “My Way” crooner Fetty Wap was hit by car while riding a motorcycle in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey. Wap also survived his terrifying ordeal, but it took a while for the rap artist to recover from his injuries.

Aside from last night’s tweets, Top Dawg Entertainment has yet to release any additional info or make an official statement regarding McKinzie’s condition.
