Lamborghini unveiled the Huracán Performante supercar at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show to the pleasure of enthusiasts around the world. The Italian automaker pulled out all of the stops with the performance-oriented model to prove that beneath the eye-catching design lies the heart of a beast. The all-new Lamborghini Huracán Performante took to the Nürburgring Nordschleife race track and set a new speed record with time to spare.

The performance-driven model carries a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that shakes roadways with an astounding 640 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. Mated to an LDF seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Huracán Performante offers smooth shifting at lightning speeds.

That’s not to say the Huracán Performante’s design took a back seat; Lamborghini is an Italian automaker, after all. The supercar makes use of active aerodynamics via the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva system. The control system is capable of adjusting the vertical load to keep the car stable through curves and reduces aerodynamic resistance in order to increase acceleration.

That combination pushed the Lamborghini Huracán Performante to become the fastest production car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife race track. The notorious 14-mile-long German track is designed to put track-ready models through their paces to determine which car is the quickest of the bunch.

The Lamborghini Huracán Performante achieved a lap time of just 6:52:01, effectively topping the previous record holder, the 2013 Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar, by five seconds. Not only that, but the supercar also covered the 14-mile-long track nearly 30 seconds faster than the Ferrari 488 GTB, its closest rival.

The Italian supercar set the record in October 2016, but the time was quickly met with controversy amid claims of fake data. Fortunately, Lamborghini released the data in question to CNET Roadshow and cleared the Huracán Performante’s name prior to its official debut. Notably, setting a new speed record was just a teaser to the model’s premiere at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The Huracán Performante runs from 0-to-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and tops 120 mph in just 8.9 seconds. The supercar boasts a top speed of just over 200 mph.

As expected, that kind of performance comes at a price. Driving home a Lamborghini Huracán Performante this summer will set you back nearly $275,000.
