For those who truly appreciate driving, operating a car is about more than mere transportation. The act of driving can be exhilarating and transcendent — in the proper vehicle, that is. It takes the proper car to elevate driving to a spiritual level. That’s why Motor Trend evaluates and awards the best cars for drivers every year. At the top of the 2018 Motor Trend Best Driver’s Car list was the Lamborghini Huracán Performante, which blew the judges away.

The main contenders in this year’s tournament for best driver’s car included European giants the McLaren 720S, Aston Martin VantagePorsche 911 GT2 RS, BMW M5, Audi TT RS, and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q4 Quadrifoglio. While all of these quality models offered stiff competition, the winner was easily the Lamborghini Huracán Performante, which earned the highest score from the multi-terrain evaluation in California that Motor Trend hosted.

“What an absolute beast!” expressed Motor Trend editor-in-chief Ed Loh. “The Lamborghini Huracán Performante is our Best Driver’s Car because it delivers the most exhilarating driving experience available on four wheels. We’ve never witnessed such a potent combination of aggression, control, confidence, and pure speed from Sant’Agata before. Bravo Lamborghini!”

Thanks to its 0-to-60 mph time of a blazing 2.5 seconds that tore down WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Sec and its tight handling along the Route 198 track, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante showed how exhilarating driving can be.

“The essence of the Huracán Performante is about the ultimate road and track experience it gives to the person behind the wheel,” said Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. “The accolade confirms that Lamborghini’s mission to create the pinnacle of driving emotion is a commitment we always pursue with passion.”

If you’ve got a couple hundred thousand dollars you can spare on your next car and want something that’ll leave your jaw on the floor, Motor Trend highly recommends the Lamborghini Huracán Performante. If you don’t have that kind of money, many of the other contenders on the list cost a fraction of that.
