Mary Barra Joins Amy Poehler’s #SmartGirlsAsk Twitter Campaign
General Motors prides itself on being pretty social media savvy (to a fault), and the American automaker’s CEO is no slouch herself. Not only did Mary Barra master Facebook earlier this month, but she’s also using her Twitter account to tackle the most viral trending topics of this day and age.
At last year’s Emmy awards, the #AskHerMore hashtag went viral, encouraging red carpet reporters to ask women questions that were a little more substantive than just “who are you wearing?” So at this year’s Emmy’s, which took place Sunday night, Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls Organization brought it back with the hashtag #SmartGirlsAsk.
Here was Barra’s question:
#STEM education is vital. My #SmartGirlsAsk question: If you could build or invent anything, what would it be? https://t.co/xSDLDsd9Gc

Barra’s question wasn’t actually posed to any of the stars on the red carpet, but it is nice to see a CEO of a major company encouraging young girls to take an interest in the traditionally male-dominated world of engineering and technology.
Of all the #SmartGirlsAsk questions that were asked, though, we enjoyed this Q&A with Megan Mullally and husband Nick Offerman the most. It’s not super serious, but their advice for teenagers does certainly ring true:
