Mazda Debuts the Restoration Parts Program for First-Gen Miatas
As of 2019, the Mazda Miata celebrated 30 years on the road. With such a landmark anniversary in the rearview mirror, it’s no surprise that some Miatas need a little TLC. That’s why Mazda has created the Restoration Parts Program.
Power and Efficiency: Mazda diesel technology continues to develop
Based on a survey of auto parts shop and Mazda Miata clubs, the automaker determined which parts were in high demand. These sought-after parts included original daisy-design aluminum wheels, fabric soft tops, brake calipers, and even harder-to-find authentic components, like badges grommets, and bolts. But this is far from an exhaustive list — Mazda has created a 42-page catalog that lists over 1,100 parts. All of the parts will be manufactured in Japan, using the same techniques used to create the originals.
Chairman and CEO of Mazda, Masahiro Mori, is proud of the company’s contributions to roadster culture, and he’s glad that more Mazda Miata owners will be able to restore their vehicles.
“By helping prolong the life of MX-5 Miata NA models, Mazda is committed to supporting the roadster culture and looks forward to seeing these historic vehicles on the road — and on the track — for years to come,” Mori said.
Before the Mazda Restoration Parts Program debuted, these authentic components were only available to Japanese drivers via the Factory Restoration Program, launched in 2017. This allowed drivers to send their beloved vehicles back to the factory for a full restoration. American drivers, on the other hand, had to choose between salvaged parts and aftermarket pieces. While you still won’t have the option to send your Miata back to the factory, you can order these authentic parts from your local Mazda dealership.
