MX-5 RF Launch Edition Opens for Preorder
After Mazda announced that it would be bringing the MX-5 Miata RF to the US, it said that it would do so with a special model, the Launch Edition. There was, unfortunately for many of us, a slight catch: before becoming available to order by the general public, the RF Launch Edition was first going to be offered for a limited time to a select, secret group of loyal Mazda customers.
That time begins today at noon (Eastern Time, that is, or 9am Pacific), when those loyal customers who received an invitation will be allowed to preorder one of the 1,000 Mx-5 RF Launch Edition vehicles at MX5RFPreorder.com by putting down a $500 refundable deposit and choosing a dealer that the customer would like to fulfill the transaction.
Due to the launch of the preorder website, Mazda has also released the pricing on the Launch Edition: $33,850 for the manual six-speed model or $34,925 for a six-speed automatic. Deliveries will start in February.
The RF Launch Edition is based on the Grand Touring trim level (the highest available), so the model will feature Machine Gray Metallic paint, Auburn Nappa leather trim, and a hand-painted black roof panel (the leather and black roof panel are Launch Edition exclusives). The Launch Edition also comes with bespoke doorsill plates, Advanced Keyless Entry, and most uniquely, a custom-designed 42mm Tourneau watch.
“After a tremendously positive response to our global reveal of the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, we knew we had to do something unique for the MX-5 RF Launch Edition,” said Robert Davis, senior VP, U.S. Operations, MNAO. “Exclusive access to the presale is a way we can offer something special to our most loyal customers who can’t wait to get behind the wheel of one of the most anticipated vehicles in Mazda history.”
