Old Crow Mustang GT Revealed Ahead of AirVenture Auction
Ford and Roush Performance ripped the cover off their one-of-one Old Crow Mustang GT, revealing it to be every bit as cool as you’d expect. The unique Mustang, which borrows its name from a P-51 Mustang flown in combat during World War II by triple ace pilot Col. Bud Anderson, goes up on the auction block this week at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s 2019 AirVenture show.
Ford has now put together 12 one-of-a-kind vehicles that it has auctioned off in Oshkosh at The Gathering. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the EAA’s aviation programs, helping bring the gift of flight to more aspiring pilots. The previous 11 vehicles have raised more than $3.5 million.
Uncontested, incomparable: How the 2019 Ford F-150 gets a leg up on its competition
“Heroes like Col. Bud Anderson have become true living legends in the 75 years since the Allied invasion of Normandy,” said Craig Metros, Ford design director. “Ford is proud to team up with Roush Performance to honor Col. Anderson and all of the brave servicemen and servicewomen who risked their lives during World War II, all while raising funds for the Experimental Aircraft Association, which helps make flying more accessible to America’s youth.”
The Old Crow Mustang GT itself is quite the unique beast. It gets 710 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque from a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a Ford and Roush Performance TVS R2650 supercharger, making it only slightly less ridiculous than the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. Roush also added a cold air induction system, X pipe, and rear fascia aerofoils, while Ford Performance pitched in a custom active exhaust system and front racing spoiler.
Also offered with the Old Crow Mustang GT is MagneRide damping, custom 20-inch lightweight Roush wheels with 275/35R Continental ExtremeContact sport tires, the rear spoiler from the upcoming Shelby GT500, custom heat extractors on the hood, a Sparco four-point harness, and aluminum rear seat-delete.
From an aesthetic standpoint, the Old Crow Mustang GT is inspired by Anderson’s plane in every way, from its custom paint scheme to a custom Roush grille with a P-51 Mustang badge to the emblem of the Eighth Air Force on the decklid. Inside, you’ll find military green leather and canvas upholstery, red shifter knob and door handle, and the P-51 logo emblazoned on the dash.
The Old Crow Mustang GT hits the auction block in Oshkosh on Friday. If you’ve got some money burning a hole in your pocket, hustle up, get your hands on an inimitable ‘Stang, and help support a great cause.
