If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the recipient of Popular Mechanics’ 2020 Car of the Year award, you might be surprised that the winner isn’t an electric model like it has been for the past three years. Instead, the publication bestowed this exclusive title upon the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

Balancing track-ready capability and everyday comfort
For starters, Popular Mechanics was impressed with the 2020 Corvette Stingray’s blend of affordability and speed. The publication’s contributor Alexander George referred to the model as “a fast, agile, covet-worthy stunner of a car.” He expressed how it has similar qualities to European sports cars for well below the typical six-figure price tag.
Popular Mechanics praised the Stingray for its impressive acceleration rate, which enables it to go from a standstill to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. The model’s 6.2-liter V8 provided a gratifying ride each time you take this beast on the road.
An exciting and accommodating sports car for the money
According to George, the publication’s judges still found the 2020 Stingray exciting to drive even after the week-long testing period. “The driver’s seat never lost its novelty. It is thrilling to hold the keys to this thing.”
The Stingray’s comfortable and well-equipped cabin was another thing that wowed the judges. George comments on its “livable” design that makes it perfect for commutes as well as laps around the track. Sound-muting materials in the cockpit, Apple CarPlay accessibility, and a combined 13 cubic feet of cargo space with both front and rear trunks translates to a quiet, connected, and sufficiently spacious driving experience.
