Porsche Deliveries Up 2 Percent in First Half of 2019, Macan Still Leading
Porsche has announced its global vehicle deliveries were up two percent in the first half of 2019, with 133,484 models delivered from January through June compared to 130,598 last year.
Notably, however, Porsche’s European sales declined sharply in the first half of 2019 compared to 2018 —they were down 16 percent, and 18 percent in Germany specifically. Sales were good in America and the USA, up three percent, but the biggest growth came from the Chinese market, where Porsche delivered 28 percent more models than in the same period last year.
This is not a trend specific to Porsche, as many automakers have recently ramped up their efforts to tap into the rapidly growing Chinese market.
“In Europe, we have as expected still felt the after-effects of the switch to WLTP and gasoline particulate filters in the second quarter,” said Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. “It is all the more satisfying that the growth in our two largest markets, namely China and the USA, is particularly pleasing — and that in spite of a general downward trend in these countries.”

Porsche’s most popular model remained the Macan SUV, 47,367 of which have so far arrived in customer hands this year, though the Cayenne SUV made a big leap forward with 41,725 deliveries, up 45 percent.
This means that just about a third of Porsche deliveries so far in 2019 have not been SUVs, and if that surprises you, it shouldn’t. The Panamera, 718, and 911 — the automaker’s more performance-oriented, low-slung sports cars — might take up most of the space in the brand’s advertising, but they’ve never been the best sellers.
As the crossover and SUV craze continues to sweep the world, Porsche has been reporting record profits year after year, and making the most of it — by giving its employees bonuses and building better cars.
