Refreshed Chevy Cruze Set for South America

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Though the Cruze is a thing of the (recent) past for U.S. Chevy fans, this model is reinventing itself in South America. Here’s a brief overview of some of the key changes the 2020 Cruze embodies.

What’s new

The 2020 Chevy Cruze boasts two major updates worth noting: the addition of the Premier trim and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Cruze Premier will replace the Cruze LTZ as the highest trim level for the model. Interestingly enough, the Cruze is the first Chevy car available in South America to offer the Premier trim.

The new Cruze model will also include a Wi-Fi hotspot which can connect up to seven devices to the internet. Here in the States, it’s easy to take in-vehicle Wi-Fi for granted. However, for South America, the new Cruze Premier will be the first vehicle on the continent to provide this feature, as GM Authority confirms.

Carlos Zarlenga, President of GM South America, articulates that the brand’s goal behind adding this tech was to improve the in-vehicle user experience. “Studies show that Brazilians are one of the most connected people in the world, spending an average of two and a half hours a day in the traffic in city large centers.”

More modifications

Like with any refresh, the 2020 Cruze incorporates a variety of smaller changes. Here are just some of the more subtle tweaks that the new Cruze manifests.

  • The latest third-generation Chevrolet infotainment system with 8-inch color touch screen
  • Available driver-assist features now include pedestrian detection and automatic braking technology
  • A center-console button that disables the engine’s auto start-stop feature
  • A new black-brown interior color combination for a modern vibe

Per GM Authority, the 2020 Cruze will be available in Brazil and Argentina starting next month. However, those in other South American countries will have to wait until later this year to get their hands on this reimagined model.
