The automotive world can sometimes be a large and confusing space. From pushy salespeople to acronyms that you aren’t familiar with, it can be tough to know what to do. However, by following the helpful tips from Rory Angold, Executive Vice President at United Car Care, you will be well on your way to finding the perfect car for you.

1. Wants vs. Needs

When car shopping, the first thing you should do is narrow down your list of desires into wants and needs. You may want a car that has a sunroof, leather seats, and a fancy sound system, but it is unlikely that you will need them. Take time to think about the items that are absolutely necessary for your vehicle. For example, if you have a large family, you may need to have extra seats, or if you are a building contractor, you may need lots of cargo space for tools. Try to focus on vehicles that fit your needs – treat the wants as a bonus if the car happens to have them.

2. Remember the Weather

When searching for a new vehicle, be conscious of the climate in your city. If you live in a place where it is sunny all year, you may wish to look at getting a sportier car (maybe even a convertible). Meanwhile, if you live in a colder, snowier climate, you may want to consider a larger SUV that can handle the harsher conditions.

3. Your Budget

One of the first questions that most dealers will ask you as soon as you walk through the door is how much money you are looking to spend. You should take a moment to analyze your finances in advance to see how much you can comfortably afford to pay. Once you have a figure, look only at cars within that range. Do not be tempted to overspend.

Though there is no absolute answer to the question of the right vehicle for you, it is important to be prepared and knowledgeable as you go about your search. By taking the time to do a thorough and diligent search, you will soon be driving home in the perfect vehicle for you.
