This month, the cream of the crop in terms of fashion, style, entertainment, and culture — and, sure, more than enough obnoxious influencer-types with no palpable talent beyond appearing on social media platforms in some form or fashion — descended upon New York for the 2019 Met Gala. Of everyone who stomped down the red carpet, Met Gala co-chair and all-galaxy tennis champion Serena Williams made one of the boldest impressions with a yellow get-up by Atelier Versace — which amply covered her sweet highlighter neon Air Force Ones.

But her presence was felt before she stepped that first Nike out of her ride because of her choice of chariot. Williams rolled up in a 80th Anniversary Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition, which brings back the beloved suicide doors for the 10th-generation Continental.

Given the overarching idea of exclusivity at the Met Gala, the Coach Door Edition was a natural choice. Lincoln is limiting production of the suicide-door Continental to just 160 units — 80 for 2019 and 80 for 2020 — and despite its $110,000 price tag, the 2019 allotment sold out in just 48 hours.

The pairing was all the more potent given Williams’ standing as a Lincoln brand ambassador who has starred in several ads promoting the new Lincoln Navigator. In addition to Lincoln brand ambassador Matthew McConaughey, who was recently featured in a spot for the 2019 Nautilus, Williams joins a long line of famous names associated with Lincoln vehicles, including Marylin Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley, and Pablo Picasso.
