Subaru to Defend Rally Title with Bucky Lasek at 2016 Sno*Drift Rally
Subaru Rally Team USA announced yesterday that driver Bucky Lasek will be taking the helm at the Sno*Drift Rally on January 28th and 29th. This marks his stage rally debut and an important one at that, as he will be defending Subaru’s undefeated title from the 2015 season, thanks to driver David Higgins.
Higgins will not be competing in this first rally but will instead serve as Lasek’s coach and mentor. Higgins will join the team behind the wheel at the second round, Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, which is scheduled for late March. Ever since Higgins joined Subaru Rally Team USA in 2011, the team has won the championship every year.
“We’re excited to try something new this season for our rally fans,” remarked Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager Rob Weir. “It’s going to challenge our entire team more than ever, as we are still fighting to defend our 2015 championship title. We look forward to sharing Subaru Rally Team USA’s full season plans in the coming weeks.”
The Sno*Drift Rally, although the first of the season, is also one of the most difficult. It covers more than 120 miles of snowy and icy terrain in northern Michigan. In short, this rally will really put Lasek to the test and see what he’s made of. Based on Subaru’s past performance, however, I have full confidence that we’ll take home a win.
