The 2021 Escalade Might Get a Camaro Engine

Unlike the sixth-generation Camaro Z28, the Cadillac Escalade survived to see another year on the market. While the Camaro Z28 might be gone, it’s not forgotten – the next-generation Escalade might be inheriting its high-performance engine.

About the Camaro engine

If the rumors are true, then the Escalade is set to receive a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine called the LT4. This LT4 delivers about 650 horsepower, meaning it thoroughly outpaces the Escalade’s 420-horsepower top engine. While the Escalade currently boasts a 6.2-liter V8, this powerplant lacks the supercharger and turbos of the new engine.

It’s also possible that we’ll get an Escalade that’s packing a Blackwing twin-turbo V8. This engine is no stranger to Cadillac models — it’s currently tuned for two different outputs in the CT6 sedan. It can put out 500 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, or for a little more kick, 550 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque.

The LT4-sporting Escalade will likely have late availability. The upcoming model will also offer an electric model later in the vehicle’s life cycle. It’s unknown when that’s slated to release, however.

More about the next-generation Escalade

Aside from its potential new engines, there’s plenty more fun stuff that could be coming to the new Escalade. According to Cadillac Society, the upcoming SUV could boast an enormous center console touch screen. How big is “enormous?” Well, it’s rumored to be twice the size of the Escalade’s current 8-inch touch screen. With a whopping 16-inch screen, the Escalade would be nearly on par with the Tesla Model S and its 17-inch screen. If touchscreens aren’t your style, the new Escalade should also boast a rotary controller.
