The Chevy Silverado 1500 is among America’s most legendary pickup trucks, so it’s no surprise that Australian drivers want to take the Silverado for a spin, too.

More Power, More Features: The 2020 Chevy Silverado

Adventures in the land of Oz

Holden Special Vehicles, which produces some truly spectacular vehicles, also adapts American vehicles for the Australian market. In the past, HSV has brought the Chevy Silverado 2500HD and the Chevy Camaro to Aussie drivers, and now, it plans to launch the Silverado 1500 as soon as early 2020.

Although neither Chevy nor HSV have made any official statements, there have been murmurings from certain HSV officials. During with Aussie auto publication WhichCar, HSV’s Chris Polites claims to be “very keen” on converting the legendary pickup. After all, the Silverado 2500HD has been a strong performer for the last 18 months.

“We are limited by what we can get out of the US, but we are buying every one we can get our hands on,” Polites said of the Silverado 1500.

The Aussie-converted utes will have the 6.2-liter EcoTec 3 V8 engine, which delivers best-in-class 420 horsepower alongside 460 lb.-ft. of torque, while boasting a best-in-class towing capacity of 13,400 pounds. It’ll be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Currently, HSV hasn’t released any details on pricing, but you can count on hefty shipping costs, the extensive right-hand-drive conversion process, and adjustments to meet local regulations to jack up the sticker price. However, Polites suggests that the Silverado 1500 will cost less than its big sibling that’s already rocking Australia. Since the Silverado 2500HD clocks in at AU$114,990, buyers should expect a price in the high-five-figure to low-six-figure range.
