Toyota Unveils New RAV4 Rally Car
Toyota has revealed its RAV4 rally car, which will be driven by 2014 Baja 1000 winner Ryan Millen at various rallying events throughout 2015. The RAV4 rally car was unveiled this weekend at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas at the Monster Energy Supercross Championship season finale.
To get the RAV4 ready for competition, Millen and his team cut more than 500 pounds of weight from a stock model and added a roll cage, BFGoodrich all-terrain DOT rubbers, and a TEIN suspension in front and back. The core of the RAV4 remains intact with its sturdy, unibody construction and a stock 176-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, double-overhead cam engine.
So far, Millen seems to like his odds of being successful behind the wheel.
“I’ve driven just about everything Toyota has to offer,” said Millen. “And I’ve been very impressed with the RAV4’s tight, compact body and smooth handling. I’m looking forward to putting it through the paces this season.”
Tentatively, the RAV4 is scheduled to appear at the following 2015 Rally America 2WD-Open Class events:
- Idaho Rally – June 13-14
- Mendocino Rally – July 18-19
- Rally Utah – August 7-8
- Gorman Ridge Rally – August 22
- Prescott Rally – October 2-3
- Mt Hood Rally – October 17
