Upcoming Electric Escalade Will Boast a 400-Mile Range
A little over a year ago, we reported that Cadillac would receive many of GM’s upcoming electric vehicles. And a few months back, we discussed Cadillac CEO Steve Carlisle’s statement that the brand will use a different naming scheme for its EVs than its non-EVs.
Now, halfway through 2019, Cadillac finally seems to be getting closer to releasing these new EV models. However, one of them seems to retain its original name while incorporating electric technology: the all-electric Escalade.

Details about the electric Escalade
Per Cadillac Society, the automaker is currently working on this electric version of the beloved Escalade model. Though Cadillac has yet to reveal its full range of specs and features, we do know a few things about it. The electric Escalade will incorporate Super Cruise technology. And it’s likely to deliver a quieter ride quality, due to its battery-energized powertrain that replaces the original model’s conventional combustion one.
Anticipated release date
Cadillac is poised to release the new fifth generation gas-powered Escalade for the 2021 model year. However, it’s likely that the electric Escalade will debut a bit later, as Cadillac Society relates.
When it does appear on the market, it promises to give the Tesla Model X some stiff competition. The electric Escalade will boast an impressive 400-mile range. By contrast, the Model X currently achieves just over 325 miles per charge, according to Cadillac Society.
Cadillac reinvents itself
The news about the electric Escalade comes as no surprise, considering the recent rumors that Cadillac is gradually shifting its focus to EVs. The automaker’s decision to electrify the Escalade model elaborates on former president of Cadillac Johan de Nysschen’s comment about how GM will start debuting its newest technologies on Cadillac models before any of its other brands. The electric Escalade is just one of the first steps Cadillac is taking to reinvent itself as GM’s leading EV-producing brand.
