Hellcat Vs. Stingray

Last year, Chevy unleashed the Corvette Stingray, and everybody went wild. But the Stingray’s thunder didn’t last long when Dodge’s Hellcat engine pounced from within the Challenger and Charger SRT models. So which of the two is truly the master: the Hellcat or the Stingray? Yahoo! Autos answered that question in their recent Hellcat vs. Stingray video, in which Yahoo!’s Ezra Dyer and The Wall Street Journal’s Dan Neil take a 2015 Corvette Stingray and a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat respectively to an airport “drag strip” for the ultimate race.

Hellcat Vs. Stingray

If you were to just look at the Corvette and the Challenger, you might assume that the Stingray would easily get the best of Challenger SRT Hellcat. It’s visibly much lighter (we’re talking more than 1,000 pounds lighter), and its face is less exposed to the wind than the Challenger’s, which is more square and less sleek than the Corvette’s.

But you can’t forget what’s under the hood—out of sight, but not out of mind. The new Hellcat engine is good for a whopping 707 horsepower, while the Corvette Stingray pumps out “just” 465 hp. So while the Corvette may get the Challenger off the line, the Challenger would no doubt take over before the quarter mile marker.
