2016 Honda Pilot AWD in Baudette Minnesota

Several colleges and universities are on spring break right now, but we’re willing to bet that very few students are spending their week-long vacation in Baudette, Minnesota. Even if you did want to vacation in the self-proclaimed “Walleye Capital of the World” (suck it, Port Clinton, Ohio!), this would not be the time to do it, considering how brutally cold the region’s winters are.

But, if you are a car company rather than a tourist, then Baudette might be your dream destination this time of year. That’s because the city is home to Automotive Enviro Testing, a cold weather test facility that is used by Tesla, Acura, and, for the purposes of this new commercial, Honda:

Winter Driving: Are snow tires really worth having?

The 30-second spot, entitled “Comfortable in Baudette,” shows an AWD 2016 Honda Pilot driving through the snow safely, thanks to the use of Honda’s Intelligent Traction Management.

In the second commercial, we see more of the testing facility in Buadette, which is referred to as “the ends of the earth,” even though it would more accurately be called “the ends of the continental United States” (the city borders Canada).

Fuel for Thought: What causes road rage?

Baudette isn’t naturally cold enough for the Pilot, which is frozen at negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit in one of the tests. Looks chilly.

If you’re looking for a new SUV, watch these commercials. If you’re living in a state that’s miserably cold and you can’t wait for spring, avert your eyes.
