This week, Subaru released its May sales results. Sales continued to improve for the brand, with an overall increase of 1.1% over May of 2015. May marked the 54th consecutive month of month-over-month growth, while it also represented the 27th month in a row that sales in the US exceeded 40,000 units.
In total, Subaru moved 50,083 vehicles in May 2016. That puts Subaru at 232,860 units for the year, 2.1% more than the first five months of 2015. Specifically, May 31st (the day after Memorial Day) was a strong day for Subaru, with 10,530 vehicles sold—that’s roughly 20% of the entire month’s sales!
The all-new 2016 Subaru Crosstrek performed exceptionally well, marking its best May ever. In total, Subaru dealers sold 8,467 Crosstrek models for a year-over-year increase of 7.5%. Sales of the 2016 Subaru Forester were strong, as always, with 15,309 units sold for a 1.0% increase. The Outback followed closely behind with 12,404 sold for a 0.2% increase. Other big increases for the month of May included the Impreza (+5.1%) and the Legacy (+5.3%). The Subaru WRX/STI was down from 2,895 units last May to 2,327. Also down was the BRZ, from 606 units to just 383.
“Our retailers are laser focused on delivering the ‘Love Promise Ownership Experience’ to our customers, which combined with strong demand and the best product offerings in our franchise’s history, are resulting in continued record breaking sales,” remarked Thomas J. Doll, President and COO of Subaru of America. “It’s looking like it will be another record setting year for Subaru in the US.”
