The Best of the Best: Mazda named best car brand of 2018
The U.S. government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) administers rigorous collision and pre-collision testing, and the 2018 Mazda CX-9 crossover SUV recently earned a five-star overall rating for crashworthiness.
Those five stars are well-deserved. The mid-size SUV’s i-ACTIVSENSE features a comprehensive suite of safety systems that provide assistance and constant monitoring on the road. Smart City Brake Support is now standard on all 2018 CX-9 models for the first time. This technology automatically applies the brakes if it senses a potential hazard while traveling below 19 mph.
Other i-ACTIVSENSE safety features include: Hill Launch Assist, High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with new Stop and Go function, Lane-Keep Assist, Smart Brake Support, Distance Recognition Support System and Forward Obstruction Warning, High Beam Control, Traffic Sign Recognition System, and Adaptive Front-lighting System. In other words: there are a lot of safety innovations that go into the CX-9 when you get behind the wheel.
One of the many philosophies that guide Mazda engineers is the Proactive Safety Philosophy, which is based on creating a nimble, stable vehicle that actively avoids accidents. In addition to the i-ACTIVSENSE features, Mazda’s SKYACTIV-BODY is designed for passive safety, with its ring structure and straight frame rails that absorb impact. This impeccable combination creates a sense of strength and proof of safety that inspires a confident drive.
With tests on frontal crash, side crash, and rollover, the 2018 Mazda CX-9 received a combination of four and five stars to get an overall safety rating of five stars. More stars mean safer cars, and the NHTSA has determined that this three-row crossover SUV is a safe choice for all seven passengers.
