2020 BMW Z4 Roadster Overview
It’s hard to improve on what some might refer to as perfection — or at least, that’s what BMW thinks in regards to its Z4 Roadster. For the 2020 model year, the BMW Z4 is a carryover with very little changes. Most notably, the price has dropped for both models, coming in at $49,700 for the sDrive30i (down from $50,695) and $63,700 for the sDrive M40i (down from $64,695).
The 2020 BMW Z4 Roadster is available at two trim levels: sDrive30i and sDrive M40i.
Performance & Fuel Economy
The 2020 Z4 sDrive30i is powered by a 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine capable of 254 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. As expected, the sDrive M40i offers an even more thrilling driving experience thanks to its 3.0-liter BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder that can pump out 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes as well as steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Efficiency isn’t typically what you look for on a vehicle like the BMW Z4, but the roadster still performs fairly well in that category:
- sDrive30i: 24/32/27 MPG City/Highway/Combined
- sDrive M40i: 24/31/26 MPG City/Highway/Combined
Exterior & Interior
Highlights for the 2020 Z4 Roadster include its 18-inch V Spoke wheels, the appealing Satin Aluminum trim, a heated glass rear window, and a black softop. M Performance-inspired accents are visible on the M40i, including the 18-inch double-spoke wheels and M badging. The sDrive30i features exclusive Mediterranean Blue Metallic and Mineral White Metallic exterior colors while the M40i has its own bright Misano Blue Metallic and Frozen Grey II Metallic options. Both models offer the following exterior colors: Glacier Silver Metallic, San Francisco Red Metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic, and Alpine White.
When you sit in the driver’s seat of the Z4 Roadster, you’re surrounded by comfort and class. Every model is brilliantly engineered with you and your passenger in mind, from the available Vernasca leather seats to the modern dash. You’ll be able to see vital driving data like navigation, fuel range, and outside temperature via the BMW Live Cockpit Professional display. When it comes to music, the sDrive30i comes with a standard HiFi sound system, HD radio, and Bluetooth. As an added bonus, a one-year SiriusXM satellite radio subscription comes with the M40i.
Luxury Life: Owning a high-end vehicle has very specific perks

- Frontal Collision Warning
- Automatic City Collision Mitigation and Braking
