What better way for Ford to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the reveal of the Mustang than to reveal that the 2020 Mustang EcoBoost will be the most bonkers four-cylinder sports car ever made by an American automaker? Well, not many better ways, I can tell you that much.

The 2.3L High Performance Package offered for the upcoming 2020 Mustang pays off the rumor of a second EcoBoost engine to bridge the gap between the Mustang EcoBoost and the Mustang GT in the best way possible. The same 2.3-liter EcoBoost that made the dearly departed Ford Focus RS a completely bonkers horsepower machine will make the 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost High Performance the most bonkers four-cylinder Mustang ever made, delivering a projected 330 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque with 93-octane fuel. That shakes out to a mid-four-second 0-60 mph and a 155-mph top speed. That shakes out to bonkersness.

But wait! There’s more bonkersness.

“It’s not just the horsepower gains over the standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost, it’s the broader torque curve that delivers 90 percent of peak torque between 2,500 and 5,300 rpm, which is 40 percent wider than the base EcoBoost engine,” said Widmann. “Plus, horsepower holds stronger up to the 6,500-rpm redline — enabling more usable power and torque for enthusiasts and weekend autocrossers to enjoy.”

To adapt the Focus RS’ 2.3-liter EcoBoost, Ford engineers increased the size of the twin-scroll turbo compressor by 5 percent, increased the size of the radiator, and calibrated it to work with both the six-speed Getrag manual and the 10-speed SelectShift automatic. Adding to its performance might are several chassis and aerodynamics upgrades carried over from the Mustang GT Performance Package, including an alloy strut tower brace in the front, a 3.55:1 limited-slip rear axle, and a large black front splitter.

Want your 2020 Mustang EcoBoost to be even crazier? Welp, there’s also an EcoBoost Handling Package, which adds MagneRide dampers, a TORSEN 3.55:1 limited-slip rear axle, a 24-millimeter rear sway bar, and 19×9.5-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 265/40R Pirelli P Zero Corsa4 summer tires. Slap on Grabber Lime or Twister Orange paint, and you’ve got something that’ll make you the talk of the block.

The 2020 Ford Mustang arrives this fall. You gonna be ready for this?
