The all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair is the latest vehicle from the Lincoln Motor Company to earn top safety marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Corsair was named a 2019 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK thanks in no small part to its “Superior” score in the front crash prevention test, made possible by Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, which is offered standard with Lincoln Co-Pilot360.

In order to earn the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK, a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests; an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test; an “Advanced” or “Superior” score for front crash prevention in 12 mph and 25 mph scenarios; and an “Acceptable” or “Good” score for headlights.

With respect to the latter, the Lincoln Corsair earned the “Acceptable” rating with its available Jeweled Headlamps, which work in conjunction with Camera-Based Dynamic Bending Lighting and Speed-Dependent Lighting technologies. The former leverages a front camera to detect when the vehicle is coming to a curve and effectively bend the light to accommodate, and the latter adjusts illumination in accordance to vehicle speed for better visibility.

The new Corsair earned “Good” ratings in all six crashworthiness test, which greatly improves upon the passenger-side small overlap front crash test rating of the outgoing Lincoln MKC. The Corsair scored “Good” in all phases of the passenger-side small overlap front test but structure and safety case, in which it earned an “Acceptable” rating. In addition, IIHS ranked the Corsair “Good” for ease of use when it comes to its LATCH system.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair is the second vehicle in the Lincoln lineup to earn safety honors from IIHS. The 2019 Lincoln Continental was named a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+ earlier this year.
