Earlier this year, Tesla confirmed plans to discontinue both the Model S and Model X as part of a broader strategic shift, including a pivot toward robot production. Despite this transition, the automaker is offering a final sendoff for the two vehicles that played a central role in establishing its presence in the global electric vehicle market.

The Model S, first introduced in 2012, and the Model X, which followed in 2015, helped position Tesla as a serious automotive manufacturer. The Model S notably became the first all-electric vehicle to win the publication’s Car of the Year award in 2013, underscoring its early impact on the industry.

Limited Production and Invite-Only Access

Tesla’s Signature Series will be strictly limited, with 250 units of the Model S and 100 units of the Model X planned. Access to purchase these vehicles will not be open to the public. According to MotorTrend, buyers must receive a direct invitation from Tesla, making availability highly restricted.

Reports shared by Tesla insiders indicate that these models are intended as a formal farewell, described internally as an “honorable discharge.”

The exclusivity is reinforced by pricing expectations, with estimates placing the Model X Signature Edition just under $160,000 and the Model S roughly $5,000 less. This represents a significant increase over the current pricing of around $130,000 for a fully equipped Model X Plaid.

Distinctive Design and Signature Series Features

The Signature Series models will include a range of visual upgrades, many centered on gold accents and unique finishes. According to Motor1, both vehicles will feature gold exterior badging, including Tesla’s “T” logo and Plaid identifiers, alongside additional details such as gold seat piping and badges.

The Model S will also receive carbon-ceramic brakes with gold calipers, while the Model X retains standard red calipers as part of its Plaid configuration. Both models are expected to adopt a Garnet Red paint scheme, complemented by black mirror caps and large wheels, 21 inches for the Model S and 22 inches for the Model X.

Inside, the vehicles will include white Alcantara materials, Signature-branded door sills, and a numbered plaque on the dashboard indicating each car’s place in the production run. Additional elements include gold-colored puddle lights and a dedicated interior lighting sequence, further distinguishing these final editions.

Fully Equipped Models With Premium Package

Each Signature Series vehicle will come fully loaded with Tesla’s Luxe Package. This includes Full-Self Driving (Supervised), free lifetime Supercharging, and four years of premium maintenance and protection.

These models will feature Plaid specifications as standard, ensuring maximum performance alongside the exclusive design elements. Buyers will also receive a Signature Series key fob, reinforcing the limited-edition status of these vehicles.

While Tesla has not officially detailed every aspect, a celebratory event is expected to accompany the sendoff. It may take place at Tesla’s Fremont, California facility, where both models have been produced, with timing described as fittingly “at sunset.”
