The new version extends Tesla’s Model Y lineup in the U.S. rather than introducing an entirely new vehicle. The company has increasingly relied on different configurations of its existing Model Y SUV and Model 3 compact sedan as it seeks to stimulate electric-vehicle sales.
The timing matters for Tesla’s U.S. business. Demand slowed after a federal tax credit was removed last year, while the automaker is also trying to build on a second quarter in which its global deliveries reached record levels and exceeded Wall Street estimates.
The Six-Seat Model Y L Arrives With A Longer Wheelbase
According to Reuters, Tesla launched the six-seater Model Y L in the United States on Thursday, with the launch version priced from $61,990 on the company’s website.
The vehicle uses a long-wheelbase layout and features three rows of seating. Tesla says the model offers 325 miles of range.
The company also announced in a separate post on social media platform X that the extended-wheelbase Model Y is now available in the United Arab Emirates.
The latest release follows Tesla’s broader strategy of introducing new versions of existing vehicles. Rather than launching new models, the EV maker has been adding variants of the Model Y and the Model 3 compact sedan to encourage demand.
Tesla Already Tested The Longer Model Y In China And Asia-Pacific
Tesla first rolled out the longer version, known as the Model Y L, in China last year. The vehicle helped drive sales in the region despite strong competition from BYD and other domestic automakers.
The company later expanded sales of the model to other Asia-Pacific markets. Its launch in the United States and availability in the United Arab Emirates now extend the reach of the long-wheelbase version further.
The U.S. introduction also places the three-row Model Y in a market where Tesla has faced weaker demand following the removal of a federal tax credit last year.
Tesla expects the 325-mile-range model to help revive some demand in the United States. For now, the company is continuing with the same approach seen in China and other markets: expanding its existing vehicle lineup through new configurations.

Record Second-Suarter Deliveries Give Tesla Fresh Momentum
Tesla’s launch of the Model Y L in the United States comes as the company reports record-setting second-quarter delivery figures.
The EV maker’s deliveries surpassed Wall Street estimates, with a rebound in Europe helping drive the stronger result. The figures have raised hopes that Tesla could end a two-year streak of annual declines in 2026.
The Model Y remains Tesla’s best-selling SUV, and the new six-seat version adds another configuration to the vehicle’s lineup at a time when the company is seeking to support sales.

With the Model Y L now available in the United States and the United Arab Emirates, Tesla is extending a variant that had already been launched in China and later sold across other Asia-Pacific markets. The $61,990 launch version adds a three-row, 325-mile-range option to Tesla’s U.S. offering as the automaker tries to build on its record second-quarter deliveries.
