The dark teaser image reveals the silhouette of a large grand tourer with a long wheelbase, a low coupe-style roofline, and what appears to be a two-door configuration. The model is expected to preview the future direction of Alpina under BMW Group ownership.
BMW’s use of the “Vision” designation indicates that the car is a concept rather than a confirmed production model. The debut continues a pattern established by BMW at Villa d’Este, where the company regularly unveils design studies and limited-production vehicles.
In recent years, several of those concepts have reached production. The targa-style Skytop entered production after its reveal, while the Speedtop shooting brake is also scheduled to follow. Both cars are based on the discontinued BMW M8 Coupe.
A Large Coupe Likely Positioned Above Traditional BMW Models
The exact platform behind the Vision BMW Alpina has not been confirmed. Still, the proportions shown in the teaser image appear closer in size to the BMW 8 Series Coupe than the smaller 4 Series Coupe.
According to Motor1, a production version would likely rely on an existing BMW architecture rather than becoming a fully bespoke vehicle, mainly because of expected low production volumes. The publication describes the concept as a stately 2+2 luxury coupe arriving after the end of 8 Series Coupe production.
BMW has already indicated that the new Alpina operation will focus on limited-production luxury vehicles aimed at what it called the “discerning few.” The automaker also confirmed that future Alpina-badged models will be assembled at existing BMW factories that are currently being upgraded for the brand.
The positioning places Alpina between standard high-end BMW products and Rolls-Royce models within the BMW Group portfolio. Prices are expected to sit well above regular BMW offerings without directly competing with Rolls-Royce.
Combustion Engine Hints Remain Visible Despite EV Expectations
While reports have suggested that an electric Alpina model is inevitable, the teaser campaign surrounding the Vision BMW Alpina points toward a combustion-powered vehicle.
Alpina’s Instagram account includes references to the brand’s traditional elliptical quad exhaust outlets. The publication also noted the concept’s long hood proportions, which have fueled speculation about a V8 engine.
The report states that a V12 engine is unlikely, as BMW may continue reserving that configuration for Rolls-Royce products. No technical specifications or performance figures have been disclosed ahead of the official reveal.
BMW and Alpina have also hinted at updated versions of the company’s traditional styling cues. These include a revised interpretation of Alpina’s signature 20-spoke wheels and hand-painted side stripes, both long-standing elements associated with the brand.

BMW Prepares a New Identity for Alpina Under Its Ownership
The Vision BMW Alpina is widely viewed as the first public step in BMW’s restructuring of Alpina following the end of the Bovensiepen family era.
BMW intends to transform Alpina into a rival for Mercedes-Maybach by concentrating on larger and more luxurious vehicles. The publication reported that future Alpina products are expected to focus on flagship models rather than smaller sedans.
Future Alpina variants could be based on the updated BMW 7 Series and the next-generation BMW X7 expected next year. Smaller Alpina models derived from the 3 Series or 5 Series are unlikely to return under the new strategy.
The Vision BMW Alpina will be officially unveiled on May 15 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, where BMW has increasingly used concept cars to showcase future design and brand direction.
