[PHOTOS] Behold the New Toyota Supra, Starting at $49,990
This moment has been a long time coming. After more than 20 years out of production and at least a quarter of that time spent intensely speculating about a successor, the new Toyota Supra has finally, officially arrived, and it will start at a surprisingly low MSRP of $49,990.
As it turns out, most of the rumors were accurate. As predicted, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra will be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder producing, also as predicted, 335 horsepower. Torque is rated at 365 lb-ft and the transmission will be an eight-speed automatic with racing-style paddle shifters. Additionally, the Supra will be equipped with an active rear differential, launch control, and adaptive suspension.
The new Supra will be offered at two trim levels, both using the same powertrain: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium. All models will be equipped with the usual Toyota suite of active safety technologies, including lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and forward collision warning.

The Supra 3.0, which starts at $49,990, will come with Alcantara seats and a 6.5-inch display with iPod and Bluetooth capability, as well as the option to add navigation and a premium 12-speaker JBL sound system.
The Supra 3.0 Premium, which starts at $53,990, will feature an upgraded 8.8-inch wide-format touch screen with integrated navigation, Apple CarPlay support, wireless phone charging, a color head-up display, heated leather seats, and the aforementioned JBL sound system.
A special Launch Edition trim will start at $55,250 and be offered in three different variants based on their exterior color: Absolute Zero White, Renaissance Red 2.0, and Nocturnal Black, each of which will be equipped with 19-inch matte black alloy wheels and high-contrast red mirror caps.

The Absolute Zero White and Nocturnal Black Supra Launch Editions will feature a racing-inspired red leather interior while the Renaissance Red 2.0 Supra Launch Edition will boast a black leather-trimmed interior. All three get carbon fiber accents.
Only 1,500 Launch Edition models will be made, and thus each will feature a unique carbon-fiber badge on the passenger side displaying its number alongside Toyota president Akio Toyoda’s signature. The very first will go to the highest bidder at a Barrett-Jackson Auction on Jan. 19.
The one thing about the Supra that everyone falsely predicted is the price. At $49,990, it starts well under the mid-$60,000 that many had expected, making the highly-anticipated car more attainable to the masses. Time will only tell if the new-generation car becomes as popular a platform for customization as its predecessor.
