Mattel and Warner Bros. Are Teaming Up for a Hot Wheels Movie
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part arrives at movie theaters nationwide today. Five years ago, the first LEGO Movie proved that a film based on a line of toys could truly be a success, both commercially and critically.
Now, another toyline will evidently try its luck at a major motion picture franchise. Warner Bros. and Mattel are partnering up to produce a Hot Wheels movie.
Cars on the Silver Screen: Famous Buicks in movies
This isn’t the first collaboration between Warner Bros. and Mattel. The two are also working together on a Barbie film, starring actress Margot Robbie.
It’s also not Hot Wheels’ first foray into the world of media. The Hot Wheels line of toys has had a number of different television programs over the years, including the classic Hot Wheels cartoon and the more modern Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5.
Hot Wheels recently celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. During that 50-year history, the brand has sold more than six billion die cast cars worldwide.
“Hot Wheels has been inspiring the imagination of kids around the world for over 50 years,” said Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros.’ chairman. “We couldn’t be more excited to be bringing the adrenaline, adventure, and excitement of Hot Wheels to the big screen.”
Tips for a Night Out at the Movies: Drive-in movie tips and tricks
It shouldn’t be all that difficult to adapt Hot Wheels into a live action movie. After all, the Fast and Furious franchise is practically the same thing.
Still, it should be interesting to see how Mattel and Warner Bros. differentiate this Hot Wheels film from other car-based movies. A release date for the Hot Wheels move has yet to be announced, but we’ll probably hear more from this production during the next few months.
