Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is investing a lot of time, energy, and money into relaunching the Alfa Romeo brand in the North American market. $2.7 billion has already been allocated toward the brand’s relaunch campaign, with another $2.68 billion set aside. Furthermore, FCA spent at least $20 million by broadcasting three separate Alfa Romeo advertisements during Super Bowl LI earlier this week.
Needless to say, the campaign to bring Alfa Romeo back to America has been a very expensive one. However, a recent conference call from FCA may have just revealed one way that the company is planning to earn back some of the money spent by the campaign.
The Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform is set to be utilized by future Dodge, Jeep, and Maserati vehicles.

The Giorgio platform is currentlly used by the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, which starred in all three of the Alfa Romeo Super Bowl ads. The platform is based around rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive capabilities.
According to FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne, the Giorgio platform will be used by other FCA brands for their rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles.
During the conference call, which presented FCA’s fourth-quarter earnings from last year, Marchionne told analysts that the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform would be used for “the whole Maserati development beyond 2018.”
Marchionne also mentioned that the platform could be applied to large Jeeps and rear-wheel Dodge vehicles.
“The investment in Alfa Romeo and certainly the technical investment in the architecture was something that was designed to benefit more than Alfa,” Marchionne said during the call. “I’m happy that we have finally found clarity of thought in the extension of these architectures well beyond Alfa.”

Although the FCA CEO did not specify which models would receive the Giorgio platform, sources close to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles suggest that the platform will be utilized for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Dodge Journey and Durango SUVs, and the next generation of Dodge Challenger and Charger vehicles.
As for Maserati, it is rumored to be using an upgraded version of the Giorgio platform for every future model in its fleet, including the upcoming GranTurismo model.
As the Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of the most anticipated vehicles in the industry right now, it will be interesting to see how its platform is implemented across the various brands in the FCA family.
