Amman Celebrates 10 Years of GMPT-E Turin
GM President Dan Amman was on-hand at GM Powertrain Europe Turin on Tuesday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the start of production. Amman announced plans to continue the bond between Turin and the Politecnico di Torino, which will result in the continued expansion of the engineering development center.
A letter of intent ensures the escalation of Politecnico and GMPT-E Turin’s projects as well as a 2,500-square-meter expansion on the campus of Politecnico named “Cittadella Politecnica.” The expansion will lead to the construction of cutting-edge labs and offices, with the groundbreaking set to take place at the beginning of 2016.
GMPT-E Turin is responsible for the technology behind the Opel “Whisper Diesel” powertrain—the 1.6-liter CDTI. The plant’s 2.8-liter diesel engines are scheduled to become a part of the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado lineup later this year.
“The Turin engineering center and our entire team here plays an important role in our efforts to lead the industry in product and technology” said Ammann. “The team has developed world-class modern diesel engines providing our customers with outstanding performance and efficiency in a fun-to-drive experience.”
