Blancpain GT Series Announces New Official Sim Racing Title
The Blancpain GT Series has announced it is joining the world of sim racing with the release of a new game that will be called Assetto Corsa Competitizione, believed to be a transitional installation between the Assetto Corsa simulator and a possible sequel to come in the future.
Assetto Corsa is a comprehensive driving and racing simulator that features over a hundred cars of various characteristics, including production and racing cars, both historic and modern. Assetto Corsa Competizione, on the other hand, will focus purely on representing the 2018 Blancpain GT Series season while attempting to reproduce the cars, tracks, and competition with the highest level of fidelity.
Like Assetto Corsa, Competizione will use laser-scanning technology to achieve the utmost in track surface accuracy and will also be compatible with virtual reality headsets. Unlike Assetto Corsa, however, it will use Unreal Engine 4 to offer realistic night-and-day and dynamic weather systems.

It will also use motion capture technology to realistically recreate the movement of the drivers and mechanics as well as—finally—introduce a ranking and leaderboard system.
“This announcement represents a dream come true for us. The Blancpain GT Series license is just the tip of the iceberg,” said Marco Massarutto, co-founder of Kunos Simulazioni, the developer behind Assetto Corsa.
“By combining the potential of Unreal Engine 4 and the feedback received from our community, we are producing a completely new simulation aimed to redefine the racing game genre, improving the features that made Assetto Corsa so popular, and introducing those demanded by players for a high-level racing simulation game – with no compromise, and remaining loyal to our philosophy.”
The game will launch as an Early Access title on Steam in March 2018.
