Buick Global Sales Top 1.4 Million Vehicles for Second Year in a Row in 2017
For a second straight year, Buick sales surpassed 1.4 million vehicles around the globe, driven by a record year in China and retail sales gains in the United States and China. Buick’s success in these markets can be attributed to an onslaught of fresh products, including but not limited to the Excelle GX, GL6, and Velite 5 in China and the all-new Enclave, Enclave Avenir, and Regal in numerous markets.
“Buick spent 2017 moving fast despite its impressive global volume,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. “We’ve launched products with the pace and innovation of a startup with the backing of the industry’s top dealer network and a development process driven by quality and safety. It’s a combination that’s proven successful year after year.”
Buick has enjoyed 8.4% growth in the past five years, thanks in no small part to an effective effort to change brand perception and the introduction of new products in key markets. 2017 was no different—Buick launched seven new vehicles in China and four in North America.
In North America, Buick launched its Avenir sub-brand with the 2018 Buick Enclave Avenir, which went on sale in late 2017 and quickly accounted for 30% of all Enclave sales. The new Buick LaCrosse Avenir was also introduced for North America and China, and its arrival will likely have a positive impact on average transaction prices as Buick attempts to proliferate its Avenir brand.
Buick hasn’t tipped much of its hand with regards to plans for the year ahead, though speculation suggests that there may be a dedicated electric crossover on the horizon with the brand expected to lead GM’s charge toward growing its zero-emissions vehicle output.
