Johan de Nysschen has certainly been a vocal leader during his tenure as Cadillac President.
In August of 2016, De Nysschen announced in the comment section of The Detroit Bureau that the company was indeed planning a new flagship model and a subcompact crossover, as well as “Lux 2” and “Lux 3” sedans. Then, in October of 2016, de Nysschen sat down for an interview with Motor Trend in which he seemingly dispelled rumors of a Cadillac mid-engine performance coupe based on the upcoming Corvette Zora.

Well, it seems like de Nysschen is up to his old tricks again. That’s because during an appearance at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, de Nysschen confirmed that the company would be introducing a new crossover in 2018, but it won’t be the Cadillac XT3 as has been reported by multiple automotive sites.
“A new compact crossover called XT4 will debut in 2018 in the US and subsequently in Europe, with an entirely new series of efficient and powerful engines,” de Nysschen announced at the Geneva Motor Show. “Starting with the launch of XT4, a new Cadillac will be brought to market every six months, a total of five carlines in the space of two years.”
The President of Cadillac also mentioned that the reason he decided to announce the name of upcoming XT4 was because he’d seen online reports where the new model had been inaccurately referred to as the XT3. De Nysschen also told the audience that while the XT4 will compete with vehicles like the Audi A3, the XT4 will be larger than that model in the same way the Cadillac XT5 is bigger than the Audi Q5.
While much of de Nysschen’s speech focused on the upcoming XT4 and Cadillac’s intentions of entering Europe’s right-hand drive market in the not too distant future, he also spoke about the Cadillac Escala Concept, which was the centerpiece of Cadillac’s display in Geneva.
“As our brand expands, it will do so based on a strong foundation of product substance,” said de Nysschen. “The Escala Concept is indicative of that substance. It is the prototype for our ongoing product offensive, containing key aspects that will characterize our designs going forward.”
