GM Extends 2019 Corvette ZR1 Production into July
Good news for ‘Vette fans: GM will extend the production of the C7 Corvette into July. Per GM Authority, the automaker has approved the production of an additional 50 models of the 2019 Corvette ZR1.
Considering that the release of the mid-engine Corvette C8 is imminent — July 18, to be exact — it’s no surprise that Chevy is switching gears to the next step of this model’s evolution.
Details about the transition
Chevy fans can expect a 10-week closure of the GM Bowling Green plant. This will allow the factory to retool after the last C7 rolls off of the production line, in prep for the new C8 model.
If you still want to nab a C7 Corvette of your own, you’ve still got a bit of time. According to GM Authority, the manufacturer recently had an estimated 98-day supply of 2018 and 2019 model years across dealerships nationwide. This translates to just over 7,000 cars. However, GM expects this number to drop to fewer than 2,500 models soon, when the C8’s start infiltrating the market.

Rumors of the C8
Whether you’re already sold on the C8 Corvette or need some time to mourn the loss of the C7, the C8 definitely has some exciting features to anticipate. For starters, it will have new headlights with a sleek, angled design, which incorporate LED light clusters. Recent spy shots indicate some fresh updates to the interior, as well. The C8 will include a nearly-hexagonal shaped steering wheel with mounted audio-control buttons. And some sources predict that the rear-view mirror might take a cue from Cadillac models and function as a rear-view camera display.
