The announcement comes more than a year after Jaguar introduced the dramatic Type 00 concept in December 2024. The production version will retain much of the concept’s radical identity while adopting a more practical four-door body style.

Jaguar’s transition is not limited to electrification. The company is repositioning itself toward the high-end luxury market, targeting buyers traditionally associated with brands such as Bentley rather than its previous competitors in the premium segment. The Type 01 is expected to sit well above the $100,000 price range when deliveries begin in the first half of 2027.

The naming strategy itself reflects this broader transformation. Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover explained that the “zero” symbolizes a complete brand reset, while the “one” represents something “one of a kind,” signaling the beginning of a new chapter for the manufacturer owned by Tata Motors.

A Four-Door Grand Tourer with Nearly 1,000 Horsepower

The production-ready Type 01 will differ from the original Type 00 concept by featuring four doors instead of two. Despite that adjustment, the vehicle remains a large grand tourer measuring approximately 204.7 inches (5.2 meters) long.

According to Motor1, the EV will ride on a substantial 126-inch (3.2-meter) wheelbase designed to accommodate a battery pack with an estimated net capacity of around 120 kWh. Jaguar says the setup should allow the car to travel up to 400 miles (644 kilometers) under the EPA cycle and as much as 430 miles (692 kilometers) in the WLTP test cycle.

Power will come from a tri-motor configuration producing more than 986 horsepower alongside torque figures exceeding 959 pound-feet (1,300 Newton-meters). Jaguar described the driving experience as an “engaging drive with deep reserves of power, plus refinement and composure.”

The automaker also confirmed that the vehicle will feature air suspension with active twin-valve dampers. Standard models will include 23-inch wheels, while certain markets with rougher road conditions will receive smaller 21-inch wheel options.

Jaguar Rules Out Combustion Engines for Future Models

Speculation surrounding a possible range-extender version has now been addressed directly by Jaguar. The company confirmed it has no intention of fitting the Type 01 with a combustion engine.

Jaguar plans to move forward exclusively with fully electric vehicles as part of its broader restructuring. The strategy represents one of the most dramatic shifts currently taking place within the automotive industry, combining full electrification with a move into a significantly more expensive market segment.

The company acknowledged that the transition could alienate much of its existing customer base. Jaguar reportedly expects fewer than 15 percent of current customers to remain with the brand following this repositioning effort.

Rawdon Glover stated that Jaguar’s intended audience now consists of buyers focused primarily on design and interior quality. He also suggested that, for these customers, the vehicle’s powertrain ranks relatively low on their list of purchasing priorities.

Styling Remains Controversial Ahead of the Official Debut

Since the unveiling of the Type 00 concept in late 2024, Jaguar’s design direction has generated strong reactions. The upcoming Type 01 appears set to preserve much of the original concept’s unconventional styling rather than soften it for production.

One of the more controversial elements, the absence of a rear window, is expected to remain part of the final vehicle. The unusual design has continued to divide opinions as Jaguar prepares for the model’s official premiere later this year.

The Type 01 will become the first production model introduced under Jaguar’s redefined identity. First customer deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2027.
