Japanese Toyota Ad Compares Prii to Chocobo
Do you know what a Chocobo is? Your answer may very well determine whether you were sitting at the cool kids’ table in high school or whether you were one of the kids sitting with your nose buried in your Nintendo Power Magazine (which is to say you were the actual cool kid).
For those unawares, a Chocobo is a race of avian creature frequently depicted in the Final Fantasy games. Per their profile in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, the Chocobo is “A breed of flightless birds, characterized by their yellow feathers, distinct odor, and the unforgettable chirp, ‘kweh!’ Domesticated for their gentle nature and quick feet, they are often used as a mode of ground transportation.”
Naturally, Toyota was all like “hey, we can totally use that to sell the Aqua Urban-X, so why don’t we just get three yellow Prius C’s out there in the countryside and play the Chocobo Theme?” So they went ahead and did just that:
It definitely makes the Prius seem like a lot of fun to drive, but one has to ask: what is that ominous black Prius near the end of the ad supposed to represent?
My guess? Black Flan.
