The Jeep Cherokee overthrew the Jeep Wrangler for sales supremacy last month

Throughout the first half of 2018, the Jeep Wrangler rose to the top of Jeep’s sales charts as the brand’s best-selling model. Yet, the sales results from last month prove that the Wrangler has encountered some competition for that title.

The Jeep Cherokee was actually the best-selling Jeep in August.

Indeed, Jeep sold a total of 21,978 Cherokee vehicles last month, a sales increase of 85 percent compared to the 11,874 it sold last August. Meanwhile, Jeep sold a total of 20,168 Wrangler vehicles during that same period.

The Wrangler is still top model when it comes to year-to-date sales. Jeep has sold a total of 174,968 Wranglers so far this year, with 155,907 Jeep Cherokee models delivered during that time.

That’s not the Jeep Wrangler’s only cause for celebration. As it turns out, the Wrangler set a new August sales record last month.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was right behind the Wrangler in terms of sales last month, with a total of 20,072 units sold. Unfortunately, that’s a far cry from the 23,572 Grand Cherokees sold during August of 2017.

Year-to-date, Grand Cherokee sales are down by 7 percent. Jeep has delivered 147,341 units of the vehicle so far this year.
