The recall affects several of the brand’s most popular SUV models built across multiple model years. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report, the problem involves the driver-side airbag connector and may increase electrical resistance within the circuit.
Land Rover began investigating the issue after detecting a rise in warranty claims related to airbag warning lights. The company’s engineering team later reproduced the condition through testing, identifying the source of the problem before announcing a repair campaign.
Driver-Side Airbag Connector May Develop Corrosion
According to the NHTSA recall report, the affected vehicles may have a driver-side airbag connector that can develop fretting corrosion over time. This corrosion may increase resistance in the electrical circuit, creating the possibility that the driver-side airbag could fail to deploy in the event of a crash.
The recall covers 2022-2026 Range Rover models, 2021-2026 Discovery models, and 2020-2026 Defender models. Owners of affected vehicles may also notice an illuminated airbag warning lamp, which, according to the recall report, is expected to appear at least 300 to 400 miles before a potential non-deployment event.

Investigation Traced the Issue To Normal Vehicle Articulation
Land Rover opened its investigation in August 2025 after observing an increase in warranty claims associated with the airbag warning light.
In November 2025, investigators examined returned clockspring connectors and found evidence of oxides on the connector pins. The manufacturer’s engineering team then carried out a series of experiments to recreate the issue. It was not until March 2026, following vibrational rig testing, that Land Rover determined normal vehicle articulation could induce the corrosion responsible for the increased electrical resistance.

Repair Will Involve Applying Gel Rather Than Replacing Components
Land Rover will address the issue by applying a gel to the airbag connector terminals. The automaker will not replace any parts as part of the recall repair.
The company also stated that it is unaware of any reports in the United States involving airbag non-deployment linked to this issue. Land Rover further said there have been no reported injuries, accidents, or fires in the U.S. associated with the defect.
