Lincoln got 2016 off to a roaring start in January, moving 7,177 vehicles and improving upon 2015’s January sales mark by 8.4%. This sales success was largely facilitated by a big month for utilities and a steady performance by cars, adding up to the brand’s best start to a year since 2008.

The All-New Lincoln Continental: Expected to be Lincoln’s flagship model moving forward

Lincoln’s best-seller once again was the all-new MKX, which accounted for 2,052 sales and a 51.1% year-over-year increase. While the MKC and Navigator both slid by about 200 units a piece, an 88.4% sales boost for the MKT offset a substantial amount of those losses.

In total, utility sales were up 13.2% at a total of 4,693 vehicles delivered. That figure was good for Lincoln’s best January for SUV sales since 2001.

In terms of car sales, where were flat at 2,484 units, the brand’s two models took diverging paths. The MKZ put in a solid performance at 1,946 units delivered, up 6.3% year-over-year. The MKS, on the other hand, was down 16.6% with a total of 538 sold.
