The push comes as BMW M leads Mercedes-AMG in global sales. For AMG, the response is not limited to one technology or one type of vehicle: the plan includes new electric performance models, revised combustion engines, and a wider spread of body styles.

CEO Michael Schiebe confirmed the scale of the rollout, which will cover several segments. It is a broad move, and a direct one too, aimed at giving the Affalterbach brand more reach in an increasingly crowded performance-car market.

A 27-Car Expansion To Close the Sales Gap

Mercedes-AMG’s target is 200,000 annual global sales by 2030. That would represent a 38 percent increase compared with its 2025 deliveries of 145,000 vehicles.

AMG plans to launch more than 27 cars over the next 36 months to support that growth. The new vehicles will not be limited to a single category, with multiple segments and body styles included in the product plan.

The backdrop is clear: BMW M currently dominates Mercedes-AMG in global sales. That position has pushed AMG to rethink how it competes, with a larger and more varied portfolio forming the basis of its response.

Electric Performance Takes a Central Role

AMG’s next electric performance phase will be led by advanced motor technology. The upcoming GT 4-Door Coupe will use three axial flux electric motors, which the source describes as delivering major power in a lightweight package.

Mercedes recently began manufacturing the motor that will be used in future AMG EVs. These axial flux motors will remain exclusive to AMG models, preserving a separate identity for the brand’s electric performance cars.

The approach shows how AMG is positioning electrification inside its performance image. Not just as a regulatory shift, but as a way to keep sharp driving dynamics and emotional appeal in its future models.

A Revised V8 Keeps Combustion in the Mix

AMG’s electric plans do not mean the end of gasoline performance. The brand is also preparing a heavily revised V8 engine for the second half of 2026.

Spy shots of upcoming models such as the Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 show that AMG remains committed to buyers who want traditional cylinder counts. Alongside that, AMG will reduce its engine variants from 10 to 4.

That smaller engine family will focus on optimized V8 and six-cylinder powerplants. In a market that includes Audi RS, Cadillac V-Series, and newer premium challengers such as the Genesis GT3 concept, AMG is relying on both advanced EV technology and refined combustion engines to support its 2030 target.
