While we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the 2019 Ford Ranger in the United States, Ford has revealed upgrades for the new Ranger overseas. Namely, the Ranger gets a new bi-turbo 2.0-liter EcoBlue engine that puts out 210 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, standard Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Intelligent Speed Limiter, class-leading wading depth, and modest style updates.

“The new Ford Ranger provides customers with an unbeatable combination of pulling power, fuel-efficiency, and smart driver-assistance technology, and our cutting-edge EcoBlue engine equipped with the latest (selective catalytic reduction) technology exceeds the new stringent emissions regulations,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales, and Service, Ford of Europe. “Our new Ford Ranger Raptor will ramp up the excitement even further when the thoroughbred desert racer and extreme lifestyle off-roader goes on sale for true enthusiast off-roaders at the same time.”

The bi-turbo EcoBlue is the most powerful of three new 2.0-liter EcoBlue engine offerings. Two single variable-geometry turbocharged EcoBlue engines offer 128 and 168 horsepower, delivering more air at a lower rpm than the previous Ranger’s 2.2-liter TDCi engine. Both engines get a standard six-speed manual and available 10-speed automatic, which have been optimized to provide a respective 4 percent and 9 percent increase in fuel economy.

Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Intelligent Speed Limiter is a first-in-class features that automatically applies the brakes when a collision is detected with a vehicle or pedestrian and sets and adjusts maximum vehicle speed based on posted road sides. The new Ranger also offers the Ford KeyFree System and Ford Power starter and integrates tailgate locking functionality into the central locking system.

As far as the look, the improvements are slight but effective, including tweaked front bumpers and grilles and Diffused Silver and Blue Lightning color options. The updated Ranger Wildtrak gets a Saber Orange exterior and unique exterior and interior design elements.

“The new Ford Ranger is ready for the demands of the modern world; it’s tough and capable enough to haul all week, then carry jet skis to a lake or a quad bike to an off-road trail at the weekend,” de Waard said.
