New Chevrolet Captiva Design Inspired by Stealth Fighters
The new Chevy Captiva hits Thailand later this year, and it’s already got a fair amount of momentum beneath it thanks to its win in the Most Exciting New Product category at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Momentum is an appropriate word given that Chevrolet got the inspiration for elements of the Captiva’s design from the air, taking influence from the powerful look of the U.S. Air Force F-35 stealth fighter.
Relying on its 3S philosophy — Space, Style, and Smart Technology — to guide the way, Chevrolet’s design team leaned into its ethos of lean muscle and styled the lower front fascia of the Captiva with the F-35 in mind. The result is C-shaped housings for the LED headlamps and fog lamps that give the SUV a swooping, almost predatory look.

“The main requirement of the design of our daytime running lights was that it had to be aggressive and intriguing,” said Colin Phipps, Director of Design, GM Advanced Design in China. “Meeting users’ demand for a high-profile design was also our goal. Along the body-side, we adopted a linear dynamic design language to complement the daytime running light.”
Working in perfect harmony with the Captiva’s thin LED daytime running lights, which flank its broad and powerful grille, the lower fascia elements give the SUV a bold face that has thus far struck a chord with critics and potential customers alike. Set to arrive later in 2019, the Captiva wears its influences well and proposes a handsome, functional utility vehicle that’s likely to be a hit.
